More features of Jim Piatt's 1984 CJ-7

For a more complete written description click herehigh positionWith soft top

Air suspension at highest level and "on road" level (check out front sway bar and distance from wheels to flares)

You can also tilt it from side to side, front and back and corner to corner

You can also put it in a "Demo" mode and it will go through all its positions while you and your friends watch

Note the extra-strong rocker-panel guard and the adjustable front sway bar. The sway bar can be disconnected with the touch of a button from in the cab. What you can't see is the rear sway bar from a BMW 500 series automobile!

Three-Piece Dash

The custom dash can be easily removed in sections if you want to add components. Here you can also see the front lever brake lock for locking the front wheel brakes. The Vintage Air conditioning unit uses controls arranged just like the original Jeep controls and blows through 3 dash louvers. You will find two power-points for your electronic gizmos like GPS, phone, camera battery charger, etc. and the proximity alarm sensor can also be seen. All guages are high quality analog except the Puck-O-Meter tilt guage. The speedometer features a trip meter, which the original CJ did not have. The clock, however is original CJ and keeps excellent time. Far to the left are swithces for rear lights and winch control from within the cab.

You can see the reinforced roll bar going to the floor. From there it is attached to the frame and isolated from vibration by rubber engine mounts.

Air Suspension Controls

The Jeep can be raised and lowered and tilted in any direction using the easy to use control mounted here.

Durango Spare Tire Carrier and Rear Bumper

Far superior to the stock Jeep spare tire carrier and set up for an additional rack to carry stoves, gas, camping gear, etc. The sturdy bumper has a good hitch that is out of the way to avoid hitting when dropping down ledges. The plug is wired to tow a trailer.

Recessed tail lights

These use the stock Jeep lenses and prevent breakage from backing into rocks or stumps.

Diamond Plate Corner Guards

They look nice and do a great job of protecting those vulnerable corners.

Wrangler-style fender flares from Warn

Made from very durable material to withstand the occasional scrape against a rock or tree.

Front End

The hoop and front bars are a great place to mount the jack. You can use quick-release pins to get thejack out quickly and easliy with no tools required. For security there is a place to integrate a lock into the system. The folding tow bar inserts into the holes in the bumper. This first winner of Four Wheeler Magazine's Top Truck Challenge has certainly evolved from its origins and from when it won that premier test.

Security Alarm

There is a keyless security alarm with a proximity sensor that allows you to walk away from the Jeep at the grocery store and leave the interior protected. It will chirp at first, then trigger the alarm and disable the Jeep if someone just puts an arm inside the Jeep or trys to move it without re-setting the alarm.

Keyed-alike lockable boxes

All the storage boxes use the same round key. The center console is especially roomy.

Trick mirror mount and detachable windshield

You can pull two stainless quick-release pins, disconnect the windshield wiper motor plug and leave the windshield at camp. The mirror is attached to the roll bar instead of the original windshield, so you can still see how your buds are doing behind you.

Lights Galore

Night runs are more fun when you know you have lots of lights. Bright interior RV light in custom overhead console, extension light in rear that extends all around the Jeep and back up lights that have their own dash switch. These can be switched on any time you would like a work light behind the Jeep. The front halogen headlights really reach out there and the rock lights underneath let you see what's happening there.

Rokar Shifter and twin-stick transfer case levers

The tall shifter is reminiscent of a classic stick-shift and easily shifts the 700 R4 tranny when you need it. I have avoided more than one bad experience by being able to quickly shift into reverse with no buttons to push. No back-and-forth ratcheting, just put it in your selected gear instantly. The twin-sticks connected to the Advance Adapters Atlas II 3.8 transfer case allow you to be in 2-wheel low or high or four-wheel low or high. You can select front-wheel drive only for tight turns or rear wheel drive only

Trailer towing

Here we are going over the big rock in the "Old Sluice" on the Rubicon towing the camping trailer. The 2" hitch receiver has safety-chain attachment points and a large, round 7-wire trailer light plug is on the bumper. It even has an outlet for back-up lights if you have them wired into the trailer. We removed the fenders for this trip after seeing the abuse they took a few days earlier going to and from Barret Lake. The smooth power of the big Chevy V8 going through the automatic tranny pulls the trailer almost like it isn't there. (By the way, the best way to tackle this rock is to aim your driver's side front tire right for the high point of the rock and just drive over it. The suspension will take care of the rest. )

Custom Leather Seats

The high bolsters just wrap around you and help hold you in, reducing the fatigue factor of the long, rocky trails. The race-car seatbelts hold you in snugly buy allow you to lean out to spot those obstacles.
