ARB's Roof-Top Tent in Baja

Scroll down for photos

This great tent is ARB's latest (as of 2008) tent and is used extensively in the Australian Outback. Very EZ set up.  Just remove the waterproof traveling cover and fold over once. Install the shader standoffs and, optionally, the 2 tie-down ropes That's it! Now you are up off the ground sleeping on a comfortable built-in mattress with plenty of room for a companion plus gear.  No snakes, no critters. You enter and exit under a canopy which provides shelter for rain or hot sun. Putting it away is just as easy.  Leave your sleeping bag and pillow inside and fold it back over, put the cover back on and tighten the straps.

ARB calls this their Simpson model. It wasn't named after Homer, it's the vast Simpson desert/outback of Australia where this tent is in it's element. It works great on the Rubicon or in the rainy Northwest as well. It's been tested in the snow and scortching heat. In Baja, we got hammered by unseasonable monsoon-like rain and winds but stayed dry and comfy perched up off the ground. (A hurricane was just missing Cabo at the time). Although it shook a lot in the wind, everything held tight and no leaks at all.

This retails for $1,410 from ARB plus shipping to your destination. I can get one for you for less if you are interested. Call me if you want this georgeous roof-top home on your rig.

You will need to have a roof-rack to fasten to. I used one that had ski-rack-like rails across the top and the tent just clamped to that. If you have a ski-rack or boat rack already or one of the OEM racks on your rig, it will most likely go onto it easily.
