HOT WATER SHOWER BY R&M

Product: Hot water shower for all water-cooled vehicles Manufacturer: R & M

When we say "Unlimited" hot water, we mean that as long as your engine is running and you have a water supply, you will have hot water.

You can have a helper hold the shower head or clip it to the hood with the handy clip supplied with this very complete kit. First, you get the engine started so it will warm up, then you put the suction end in a stream, lake or just a bucket of water. Then you set up the shower head where it will spray on you. Once your engine is at operating temperature, you turn on the pump and hot water starts coming out. You can adjust the temperature and flow rate to suit and just enjoy.

It isn't like at home where you have to worry about how much hot water is left in your tank. The heat exchanger you have installed in your engine compartment instantly heats the incoming water so, as long as you have a source and a running engine, you will have hot water. The system comes with a 26 foot suction hose, so we have usually been able to get close enough to a water source to just draw from there. However you can also use a bucket. We have found that a five gallon bucket is enough for one or two showers, depending on how long you want the luxury of good hot water flowing over you

Here is a photo of a young girl at Buck Island Lake on the Rubicon who had been swimming and bathing in the chilly lake. We asked her dad if she would like to use our shower for as long as she would like. She did, and she stayed, and she stayed, and she stayed, and.....No problem though, since we had the pick-up hose in the lake and plenty of gas in the tank.

It's hard to tell here, but we had the Jeep back from the lake far enough so the ground would filter the water before it went back in the lake. We always use biodegradable soap, available at most sporting goods stores also. This is better for the environment than bathing directly in the lake.

The components look good in the engine compartment, also. Here is a photo of how we installed our heat exchanger in our CJ-7 with the Chevy V-8 engine. Some people strap them to the horizontal firewall to radiator bars on Jeeps. Installation is amazingly easy and quick. The beautiful finish of the components always draws attention when people look under the hood.

We chose to install the remote accessory kit, which permanently mounts the pump instead of carrying it in the bag with the hoses. (We use a cheap soft leather briefcase bag to carry ours) With the optional kit you get quick-connectors and just snap in the hoses and you are all hooked up. Here is what the pump looks like, mounted right by our welder box on the passenger-side fender well.

We made a bracket for the outside hose hookups and mounted it just behind our license tag, which is mounted on a thick aluminum plate next to the Warn 9500I winch. While at it, we installed a tow light cord connector on the same bracket. This location keeps a lot of the mud and gunk off the place where you hook up the shower. We've seen them with outlets in the rear also. You can put the outlets just about any place that works for you as you get quite a lot of hose to do this with the kit.

One of the great uses for the shower is washing off your vehicle after one of those muddy or dusty runs. If you have a water source nearby, you can fire up the pump and wash everything down. Be sure to not park too close to the water so you don't get mud or soap draining back into the source. R&M gives you plenty of hose so you can get back aways. We also use a 5 gallon bucket that we store things in when traveling, so the space it really takes up is minimal.

The showers are being used by recreational four wheelers, search and rescue people after long days and nights searching, skin divers, cleaning animals before a show and just about anything else you can think of. They have been installed all over the world and the great-looking heat exchanger is designed to last a lifetime.

We use to sell these here; however the manufacturer no longer responds to our inquiries. We have heard this from others as well. Too bad! It was a nice thing to have on a dusty trail. However you can get some portable showers elsewhere and at some local sporting good stores.
